The purported health benefits of wearing metal wristbands have led Americans to spend millions of dollars on these accessories. There are a lot of companies that sell items and offer them as alternatives to regular medical treatment. But how much credibility do you place in these assertions?

What exactly is a bracelet made of metal?

An accessory that can be worn on the wrist or ankle, a metallic bracelet can be made of whole or part of the material metal. Examples include:

  • Full metal bracelets (copper, gold, titanium, silver, etc.)

  • Bracelets and wrist straps made of magnetic material

  • ‌Partial metal bracelets (including the metals to those in the full metal bracelets)

  • Metal lookalikes

  • Bracelets made of metal, either coated with metal or impregnated with metal

What Do People Typically Do While Wearing Metallic Bracelets?

Rheumatoid arthritis sufferers may find relief from the agony brought on by their symptoms with the use of copper or magnetic wristbands sold by certain retailers. Various other health claims include the following: ‌

  • Improved circulation of the blood

  • ‌Toxin elimination

  • Pain alleviation

  • Reduced levels of inflammation as a result of blood vessel dilatation

  • Less stiffness

  • More energy

  • Improved rates of recuperation and healing

Bracelets made of metal can serve a variety of purposes, depending on the material they are constructed of. For instance, some people believe that wearing gold wristbands can increase brain function, whilst wearing silver bracelets may protect against infections and strengthen the immune system.

There is not enough scientific evidence to either confirm or refute any of these statements, which is the one thing that all of these claims have in common. There has not been a sufficient amount of research conducted to demonstrate that metallic bracelets are ineffective. However, the vast majority of the study that has been done has shown that the claims made about how effective they are are either partially or entirely inaccurate.

A group of persons with rheumatoid arthritis participated in a research project in the United Kingdom that investigated the effectiveness of magnetic and copper bracelets in reducing joint pain.

After a period of 5 months, the participants reported that the use of metallic wristbands did not provide any further alleviation from the discomfort of arthritis compared to the use of a wrist strap made of a material that was not metallic.

The Real Story Behind Shiny Metal Bracelets

Before you go out and buy a metallic bracelet, here are some things you should know:

It is possible that wearing metallic bracelets will not improve one's physical health in any way. They have the effect of a placebo and can help you modify your mental state when you are dealing with illness or discomfort. They do not lessen the degree of your discomfort in any way.

Despite the absence of scientific data, there are arthritis sufferers who are adamant in their belief that they are effective.

When shopping, stick solely to reputable vendors. There have been multiple instances of people being injured or poisoned as a result of wearing bracelets made of metal. This is because, in the vast majority of instances, the wristbands were manufactured using counterfeit or hazardous materials.

The mental and physical benefits of being in contact with particular metals have only been demonstrated by a very small number of research.

Can You Use Metallic Bracelets?

The vast majority of people need not be concerned about wearing metallic wristbands. However, not everyone would benefit from using them. Steer clear of them if you are: ‌

  • Carry an implantable electronic device, such as a pacemaker or defibrillator.

  • Put on some electronic gear, like a Holter monitor, for example.

  • ‌Use an insulin pump

  • ‌Are pregnant

  • are hypersensitive to metals such as nickel.
